Land Grab for Number Sentences II

About this game:

Have you ever watched children claim tide pools at the beach as their own? Even though the tide pools ran together and the children couldn’t remember who owned what, that desire to claim territory kept them happy and busy for a long time. Here we use that universal desire to acquire things to our advantage. Each step on the Mountain holds a token which represents land that can be captured.

This is such a popular game we have versions that use different skills and a number of variations that range from collaborative to competitive. In this more advanced level, youngsters first put multiples using skip counting skills on the Mountain and then use simple addition and subtraction number sentences to claim territory (tokens). Simple but a whole lot of fun!

The advanced scoring options will challenge the players’ ability to organize their work and their interpersonal skills as well, perhaps. It can also be used as a stand-alone activity for problem solving using averages.
